The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a multi-award winning musical by Rachel Sheinkin with music and lyrics by William Finn. The show centers around a fictional spelling bee in Putnam County. Six “kids” face off in the battle of their lives.Vying for 1st prize are six delightfully quirky adolescents: an overachiever who speaks six languages, a young man with unfortunate allergies, the slightly befuddled offspring of hippie parents, a shy newcomer, the politically-aware daughter of same-sex parents, and a boy scout who was last year's winner. Three adults help adjudicate the proceedings: a nostalgic former spelling bee winner, a mildly insane Vice Principal and The Official Comfort Counselor completing his community service to the state. While the spellers are children they will played by adult (16+) actors.

St. John Theatre is known for the fabulous musicals produced every summer. July 2011 will be a sure bet with "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." Our cast is in place, and director Darryl P. Clement is sure to deliver a fun filled musical/comedy.

Based on the popular 1988 film, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS centers on two con men living on the French Riviera. The first is the suave and sophisticated Lawrence Jameson, (Terrell Robinson) who makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money. The other, a small-time crook named Freddy Benson, (Chris Fredric) more humbly swindles women with fabricated stories about his grandmother's failing health.

After meeting, they unsuccessfully attempt to work together only to find that this small French town isn't big enough for the two of them. They agree that the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female heiress, Christine Colgate (Jennifer DeLatte), wins and the other must leave town. Of course when you add a Frenchman (Sean Roussel) a rich naive American (Colleen Robinson) and a country girl, (Chrissy Carter) a hilarious battle of cons ensues. Cast also includes Lenore (Melanie Kunz), Sophia (Cary Berthelot), and Renee (Hannah Boudreaux).

Remaining cast includes, Brittany Brown, Lacey Lombardo, Mary Vicknair, Marcy Bordelon, Cheryl Harris, Alexandra Winchester, Ani Boudreaux, Sarah Triche, Alexandra Steib, Patrice Nulty, Lauren Snowdy, Dawn Streeck, Trey McCoy, Logan Jacob, Juan Watkins, Logan Viverito, Matthew Weber, Derrick Faucheux, Brent Torres, Ty Louque, Blake Krueger, Lance Ural Brandon Morris, Matthew Swarez.

This is an adult comedy with ADULT HUMOR that will keep audiences laughing, humming and guessing to the end!

Have you ever wanted to learn more about acting?

Have you thought about a career in acting?

Then we have an event for you! St. John Theatre is proud to present its first Creative Dramatics workshop this spring!

The workshop will be presented by well known actors in the anime industry Todd Haberkorn and Kent Williams for a one day extensive workshop on April 9, 2011.

The full day workshop will instruct you in theatre exercises such as vocal, physical and improvisation, script work, characterization and scene work. It doesn’t stop there as the day will continue with audition techniques for stage and voice over’s, demonstrations with a live dubbing session. The day will come to a close with a meet and greet with these talented actors who both got their start in community theatre.

Cost of the full day event is $45.00 per person and we ask that you prepare a bag lunch for this full day of fun. Our theatre concession will be open during the entire event but we ask that unless you wish to travel off site for the lunch break to prepare a bag lunch.

This summer -2010, St. John Theatre will be returning to the classics. We are producing the musical "The Music Man." The show will be directed and designed by Darryl Clement. This is a fun period show, where a con man salesman comes to a small stubborn town to sell musical instruments, uniforms, etc. in order to start a band (so he says, even though he has no experience at this). Standing in his way, are the town's Mayor and a local piano teacher/librarian. Needless to say he stirs things up.

Advanced tickets available at Allied Express beginning 7/5/10. The ticket window at the Theatre opens 1 hour before each show.

Story

Don't Dress for Dinner is a frenetic case of mistaken identity with more twists than a corkscrew. When Jacqueline decides to visit her mother for a few days, her husband Bernard sees an opportunity for a cozy weekend with his new mistress. His bachelor pal Robert calls to announce his return from Hong Kong, so Bernard invites him along as his alibi, also hiring a Cordon Bleu-level cook to cater a delicious dinner. But when Jacqueline realizes Robert is coming for a visit everything changes, and the high speed farce begins! One impossible situation leads to another as the hapless friend Robert finds himself the target of both amorous attention and wrathful vengeance, while Bernard tries desperately to salvage a scrap of illicit bliss from the wreckage of a weekend.

Interested in volunteering at St. John Theatre?

Over the years, there have been hundreds of people who volunteered some of there time at SJT. Some of those have been involved with SJT for over 25 years and there are some who have joined us in the past year. Basically, without volunteers, St. John Theatre would not exist today!

So why would I want to get involved?
Here are some reasons:

Learn a new skill. For example, wood-working, making props, sewing, scene painting, project management, leadership, organization. There are many opportunities where no prior skill is required.
Act/Sing/Dance on stage. Perhaps you are dreaming of "stealing that extra bow" (no, you don't have to work backstage on a show before you can audition at SJT)
Have a sense of accomplishment. There's nothing better than to see a show open that you know you had a hand in getting off the ground.
Make new friends. There are plenty of friendly people who will always greet you with a smile and are happy to see you.
Spend quality time away from your family, or with your family :-)
Community Service. Perhaps you just want to "give back" to the community you've grown up in (or are new to).

Audition Notice for TOY CAMP

St John Theatre will hold auditions for their upcoming musical, Toy Camp. Enter into the world of make-believe, a place where toys learn to be good toys… at "Toy Camp." Ted E. Bear, Princess Ann, Glow Toy, Rover, Prima Donna, Cool Cat and others have come to Toy Camp to hopefully graduate and earn their price tags to be sold at toy stores. Not graduating from Toy Camp means certain doom at the Toy Dump! Miss Groutchstick is the teacher who insists that the toys “Pay Attention” and learn.

Mike Brooks will be directing this musical presentation just in time for Christmas toys! He is looking for a cast of at least 13, male and female, high school age and above that can sing, act and have fun, but more “toys” can be added. Auditions will be held at St. John Theatre on Wednesday October 7 at 7:00. Cold readings and musical numbers will be taught and sung. Kristen Brooks will assist with the music.

Performances will be December 3-5 with possible matinees on Friday December 4. Toy Camp is produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc, Englewood, CO.
